About

Fatma Sabet

I am an Egyptian British academic dedicated to designing social transitions toward health equity. With a passion for resilient and just food systems and gender health equality, I blend academic expertise with hands-on experience as an applied researcher and educator.

As a social entrepreneur, I founded Shillingford Organics Farm School in Exeter, Southwest England, in 2016, connecting school and university students with sustainable farming and local food practices using an innovative embodied experiential approach to food education centred around immersion and food experience design.

In 2019, I was awarded a Doctoral Scholarship from the UK Economic and Social Research Council, launching the UK’s first realist evaluation study of sustainable school food. My research pioneered a planetary health framework for school food systems, integrating social, environmental, and economic assessments through a multi-disciplinary approach. Committed to creative, participatory methods, I advocate for research that drives real-world impact.

Driven by health equalities, I strive to promote health for disadvantaged or vulnerable groups of the population, particularly women and children. I am a trustee of the Academy for Character and Excellence, Dynamic Food Procurement National Advisory Board, and chair of the Devon Food Partnership School Food Group.

Driven by a passion for promoting women’s health, I am a research fellow on the TIME Study (The Impact of The Menopause) with Dr Jessica Scott and Professor Karen Mattick

Outside work, I am a creative writer, with a published poetry anthology, and an amateur stand-up comedian. I love sea dipping, strength training, forest bathing, cooking, dancing, and above all spending time with my two children Noah and Sophie.
